Location: Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush Bay, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Situation: Paid study for Tennis New South Wales. The brief asked for a full complement of tennis courts and associated facilities suitable for Olympic competition and ongoing international tour events. Additionally there was a requirement for a significant recreational club development to provide a focus for community tennis, social recreation and entertainment.
Solution: The layout devised provided all the competition requirements to an international standard for first class tennis in a complex creating a fitting southern termination of Olympic Boulevard, Sydney Olympic Park’s primary open urban space and ceremonial street. The clubhouse amenities includes all of the facilities, such as lounge areas, bars, café, restaurant, function rooms, a gymnasium, plus administration facilities, that could be anticipated within a full-service social and recreational club.
Quick Facts: This $AU 65 million project includes a 10,000 seat centre court stadium and 15 complimentary courts including two ‘show’ courts.
Closing Arguments: This project demonstrates that flexibly programmed facilities can have a very useful purpose and long life after their short Olympic season. |
