Client: Noakes Boatyard
Location: Woolwich, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Situation:
Crawford MGA was involved in the preparation and presentation of a proposal that maintains the dock as a working shipyard, but permits public access to much of the area, previously denied under Commonwealth Government control.
Solution: In addition to developing a plan to allow the dock to maintain its role as a working shipyard the proposal incorporates a permanent “home” for the Sydney Heritage Fleet of historic vessels and would also involve the establishment of educational facilities for the training of ship righting skills through Technical and Further Education (TAFE) courses that will be based on the site.
Quick Facts: The dock is an impressive example of Victorian civil engineering and construction, being 30m wide and over 250m in length. The western end is deeply cut into the rising hillside of Woolwich.
Closing Arguments: Now controlled by The Sydney Harbor Federation Trust, Woolwich Dock was constructed in the late 1890’s and opened in 1901, with “Neotsfield” the first ship to enter the dock. |
