The Pegula Ice Arena

“The Best Ice in the Nation”

Designed by Crawford Architects, the Pegula Ice Arena has helped fuel the rise of the Division 1 Nittany Lions’ hockey success. The 227,000-square-foot, $88m three-story facility interprets the historic campus architecture and landscape forms to create a new image for the program. The project was completed on time and within budget.

Knowing a stellar facility and having the best ice in the nation helps attract the top student-athlete recruits, the university called on Crawford Architects to bring their dream to realization.

The club lounge and team meeting rooms frame the nearby Mount Nittany. New lockers rooms, weight room, offices, and training spaces were provided for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Due to our overwhelming success on the award-winning Pegula Ice Arena, the firm was further retained by Penn State to conduct facility master plans, feasibility studies, and full design services for a variety of athletic facilities.

The game-day experience Crawford Architects created is unlike any other arena where I’ve coached. In the discussions and meetings with my staff, Crawford Architects found the soul of the building… The lockers and training areas are unrivaled and of NHL quality.
