Crawford Architects was challenged to make the design as multi-functional as possible for the adjacent football stadium and other activities.
Two design concepts were prepared to show the possibilities for the building design. Both concepts considered the building form, exterior materials, day lighting and sun controls. Both options provided concepts of aesthetic possibilities and functionality. The options were sited to provide a plaza between the building and Les Devall Drive on the west with two entrances at the floor level on the northeast and southwest corners.
The projects consists of a new 138,000-gross-square-foot multi-story and multi-use arena for the university’s athletics and health and human performance programs. General seating is approximately is 4,000 seats at the main arena and 600 seats for the volleyball arena. The project will also serve as a hands-on learning laboratory to exercise science students.
