With little existing medical infrastructure nearby, Campbelltown, a targeted high growth (patient) area in Sydney, required a central comprehensive medical facility to meet an ever increasing demand for quality services. Due to a high local dependence on motor vehicles, site selection required enough space for large parking numbers.
Adaptive reuse of an existing Strathfield Car Radios retail outlet within an established retail core, containing a plethora of existing parking was a logical resolution. The existing shell, with established infrastructure, allowed a fast track construction programme, well ahead of that otherwise expected. The shed type building provided the opportunity for inclusion of a mezzanine, housing all staffing and Server Room functions.
With a floor area of just 634 square meters, 13 consultation rooms, 2 pathologists, a 3-bed treatment area, including emergency bay, nurse station and fully equipped procedures room were all provided. Included in this area were a range of support areas including amenities, staff rooms, reception, a large waiting area, kids-zone, and a 70 square meter dispensary. The detailing was kept clean, crisp, to a budget, whilst remaining highly functional, with corresponding standard of contractor finishing maintained at a exceptionally high level.
